Rush - Frequently Asked Questions
How does rush work?
You come to the house, meet us, and get to know the brothers. If the house thinks you'd be a good fit, we offer you a bid. If you accept the bid, we clap you in, give you a cool t-shirt, and are pre-initiated on Pre-I Night.
Do you guys haze?
We do NOT haze AMs or active members of the fraternity. The environment for young men joining our fraternity is very different from the environment at other houses. You are taught the values of a Pi Kapp which are very noble ideals. We even call new pre-initiates "Associate Members" (AMs) instead of "pledges" and hate to refer to Pikapp as a "frat". This flash movie demonstrates what C.L.A.S.S means to Pi Kapps.
Can I accept bids from multiple fraternities?
No, you cannot. You can receive bids from multiple fraternities but once you accept a bid from one fraternity you, in effect, reject bids from all other houses.
What's the best way to rush?
That's a difficult question. Each person varies in how they want to check out other houses. In no way do we discourage you from checking out other fraternities. We precaution you though to not believe everything that everyone tells you and to BE YOURSELF!
What is "dirty rushing"?
Dirty rushing is the act of giving alcohol to a rushee. The absence of alcohol at rush events ensures that men are recruited for their values and not how much they can drink. It also makes rush a more serious matter than a simple party. Be suspicious if anyone at another house offers you alcohol. They are violating UCLA's IFC Recruitment Guidelines
Does rushing cost anything?
Rushing is absolutely free. The chapter funds all events, food, and beverages. Even if you're not serious about joining a fraternity, please come down and check us out. Many have felt "fraternities aren't for them" and changed their minds once finding the right house.
Help! I can't read Greeek!
That's not a question...but here's the greek alphabet. Think Algebra II and Trig.
So how do I sign up?
Technically, you don't need to sign up. Just show up to a rush event at our house at 626 Landfair Ave. Check out our calendar for dates and times. Also, feel free to register for rush with us and we will contact you at the beginning of rush week.
How much does it cost to join?
The first quarter (your AM quarter) is slightly more expensive because you must pay part of the initiation fees (assuming you're initiated). We subsidize the rest but it still comes out to be more. Our dues are $420 per quarter for "live outs," which you will find to be some of the lowest dues at UCLA. Living in the fraternity house is by far the most inexpensive housing option in Westwood.
Can I be in two fraternities?
Sort of. You cannot be in another social fraternity like ours, but we allow you to also be a member of a professional, academic, or service fraternity.
